Sharp and beautiful kitchen knife set

Wow, these are SHARP. I was in desperate need of kitchen knives that didn't dull immediately... basically, you get what you pay for. The ones I had were not good quality and didn't live up to these.

First of all, the wooden block they come in is HEAVY. It's beautiful and looks really nice in my kitchen.

Second, the handles are well shaped and feel good in my hand. Easy to manipulate.

Then they are super sharp. So easy to prepare.

A wide variety of styles so you have all the essentials. These are very chic for someone who doesn't know what they need in their kitchen (me).
I would recommend these if you want a good set of knives and don't know what you want/need

Davon handle is billig, handle ziemlich teuer.

Qualitativ wirklich in Ordnung. Sehr sch?n Holzblock. Ergonomische liegen die Messer super in der Hand und sind sackscharf. No matter what you are doing, you will not be able to do so.
Fr den Hobbykoch absolut empfehlenswert. Fr den Price kaum zu schlagen.

A Very Nice Knife Set

I'm not a professional chef, but I've watched enough Forged In Fire to recognize a quality knife. And these are some pretty nice knives. They're head and shoulders above the cheap set Im replacing. They have a nice weight to them, feel good in the hand, and are nicely finished. They're also really sharp - don't ask me how I know!

The construction of these knives is very good. They have a thick blade spine and full tang construction for strength. The pommel is metal as is the bolster / ricaso area (the bit between the blade and the handle that serves as functional protection). The wooden handle scales are pinned through the tang with three pins and well blended into the metal parts. All this adds up to a solid and quality feel in the hand, and it's all nicely finished.

They are advertised as 1.4116 German Steel. This is a high carbon stainless steel, notably used in Swiss Army knives.Although I have no way to verify the alloy, research shows this is a common steel for cutlery (also known as X50CrMoV steel). While it has good edge retention, it is not extremely hard so periodic sharpening with the included sharpener will be required.

Because of the wooden handles (and since they are nice knives), I would not advise putting them in the dishwasher, even if the manufacturer says you can do so. They'll hold up much better to hand wash.

The knife block is attractive and functional, but its difficult to know which knife is supposed to go where. Just pick where they fit best I guess.

I will update this review if anything changes, but right now Im very pleased. This is a massive step up from my cheap set of department store knives. If I ever have to go on a game show and cut my way out of a cage of meat, these are the knives I'm taking.

SHARP!!

The set comes packaged really nicely and the knives are SHARP. First time they sliced through chicken and veggies like a dream and I like the tomato knife. They have a decent amount of weight to them. I really like the steak knives in this set, they are good sized. I am not a fan of the serrated blades in the last set I bought, so not having that was important In this time around, so these didn't disappoint here. I wish the set came with kitchen shears, especially at this price point, but overall solid set of knives. Would definitely recommend.

A knife block or knife drawer organizer is a good option, as it will protect the blade and prevent accidents.

To sharpen a knife you will need a stone SHANZU sharpening tool or knife sharpener. To use a sharpening stone, first soak the stone in water for about 10 minutes. Then, lay the knife flat on the stone and tilt the blade so that it is at a 10 to 15 degree angle to the stone. Using long, steady strokes, move the blade back and forth across the stone, making sure to maintain the angle of the blade. After a few strokes, move the blade to the other side of the stone and repeat the process. You should sharpen the entire length of the blade, and you may need to repeat this process several times to achieve the desired level of sharpness.

What is Damascus Steel?

The origin of the name "Damascus steel" is controversial: two Islamic scholars, Al-Kindi and Al-Biruni (c. 800-873 CE), both wrote about swords and sword steels based on appearance, the geographical location of where they were produced or forged, or the name of the swordsmith. Both authors also mention the terms "damscene" or "damascus" when describing swords to some extent.

Based on these references, there are three possible sources where the term "Damascus" comes from in the context of steel:

Al-Kindi refers to swords forged in Damascus in Siberia as "Damascene," but it is important to note that these swords are not described as having a wavy appearance on the surface of the steel. Al-Biruni refers to a swordsmith named Damasqui who made swords from crucible steel. In Arabic, the word "damascus" means "watered," and Damascus blades are often described as having a water pattern on their surface.

The most common explanation is that the steel is named after the capital of Syria, Damascus, the largest city in the ancient Levant. The most common explanation is that the steel is named after the capital of Syria, Damascus, the largest city in the ancient Levant. This may be due to swords being made or sold directly in Damascus, or simply the appearance of the typical patterns, compared to damask fabrics, which are also named after Damascus.

What is German steel?

German knives are usually made of stainless steel, which has a Rockwell index of 56 to 58. Stainless steel contains chromium. This is what lowers the Rockwell index. The advantage is that the knife blade is resistant to corrosion and rust.

Chefs generally agree that German-style stainless steel knife blades are more durable than Japanese-style blades. Chefs generally agree that German-style stainless steel knife blades are more durable than Japanese-style blades. Its durability allows you to use it for more cutting and chopping tasks.

The softer characteristic of steel still allows for a sharp edge, but stainless steel will require you to hone and sharpen it more often. The softer steel also makes it easier to sharpen the blade, although a stainless steel blade means a German knife will lose its edge more quickly than its Japanese counterpart, which is made of high-carbon steel.
